INSIDE OR OUTSIDE A WINDOW RECESS?
Choose whether you want your Roman blind fitted inside or outside your recess.
The recess is the space within your window area.
FACTORS TO CONSIDER
IMPORTANT: You should have your blind fitted OUTSIDE your recess if: Your window opens inwards Your recess is too shallow for the blind mechanism (ie less than 7.5cm).
Complete blackout will not be achieved as a small frame of light will still appear around the blind whether fitted inside or outside the recess. The chain sits behind the blind, so when the blind is down, the chain is obscured. When fitted inside a recess, you will have to lift the blind’s bottom edge to get started with the chain. The stack size of the blind when fully up will be 20-25cm.
GOOD TO KNOW
All our roman blinds come ready strung on a mechanical headrail system with universal brackets and are suitable for fixing to a wall or ceiling as well as fitting inside and outside a recess Each blind is individually safety tested and comes with a breakaway chain pulley as well as break away cord clips to the back, making them fully compliant with all safety regulations.
FITTING OUTSIDE THE RECESS
IMPORTANT: The minimum width for a roman blind is 45cm.
Maximum width is 200cm wide.
STEP 1: MEASURING YOUR FINISHED WIDTH
Measure the width of the window and then decide how much wider on either side you want your blind to sit. We recommend an additional 7.5-10cm on each side (check for obstructions). Add this all together to give your overall finished width.
TIP! You may want to look at the width of your windowsill nosing and use that as a guide.
STEP 2: MEASURING YOUR FINISHED LENGTH
The stack size of the blind when fully up will be 20-25cm
For Fitting Outside the Recess
Choose your preferred blind positioning. We recommend the top of the blind looks best when hung 15cm above the window reveal (if you have the space). The bottom of the blind looks best when it hangs below the sill by 7-10cm.
TIP! The blind will hang 4.5cm from the wall, so in most cases, it will clear the sill. If you have a sill that comes out further than 4.5cm, use this as your finishing point.
FITTING INSIDE THE RECESS
IMPORTANT: The minimum width for a roman blind is 45cm.
Maximum width is 200cm wide.
STEP 1: MEASURING YOUR FINISHED WIDTH
Measure the recess width across the top, middle and bottom to determine the narrowest point. If there are tiles around the window recess, take the measurements between the tiles – this is where your blind will sit.
IMPORTANT: SUBTRACT 1cm from this measurement and use this as the final width for your blind. (This ensures the blind has the necessary clearance when installed inside the window recess) Note: we do not make this reduction for you.
For accuracy, please enter measurements to 1 decimal place.
STEP 2: MEASURING YOUR FINISHED LENGTH
Measure the length from the top of the reveal to the sill in 3 places (for example, left, middle and right) as your window may not be square. Select the shortest measurement – use this as the finished length of your blind (without any further adjustment).
For accuracy, please enter measurements to 1 decimal place
